About Yari
Yarî means “game” in Kurdish. Yari is a small platform of games built around the Kurdish language and Kurdish music, made for families, friends and learners wherever they live.
Why we built it
Millions of Kurds live far from where their parents or grandparents grew up. Kurdish is spoken at home, sung at weddings and heard at Newroz, but children and young adults often have few chances to read it or play in it. There are very few modern, well-made games in Kurdish. We wanted to make some: games that are fun first, and that happen to keep the language and its music in everyday life.
What you will find here
- KêGot, a team quiz about 354 Kurdish songs in Sorani and Kurmanji.
- Peyvok, a Kurmanji word puzzle with 458 levels.
- Learning guides for beginners and heritage speakers.
- A Kurmanji–English word list of 1307 words with 1307 pronunciation recordings.
How we work
Our song list, word list and translations are compiled and edited by our team, and we correct them when players report mistakes. Pronunciation recordings are produced with speech synthesis; they are meant as a guide, not as a native-speaker reference. The games can be played for free; optional purchases and a subscription remove ads and unlock extras.
